Britt’s Pick: Tidal Moon Tourmaline Ring By Morgan Patricia

Share

A holdover from last week’s roundup of moon phase–inspired jewels, this ring by the Long Beach, Calif.-based Morgan Patricia Designs is too good not to spotlight on its own.

A crescent of diamonds snuggles alongside the round Tidal Moon ring, but it’s really the center stone that appears more like a moon’s phase, organically. That it’s a bicolor tourmaline plays to the ring’s further appeal (the variation of gemstone was a hot one at this year’s JCK Las Vegas show), but how often do you see one so dark and brooding? Its natural green and black combination speaks to one’s glamorous, gothic side.

“The Tidal Moon collection is inspired by the gravitational pull of the moon and its effects on our tides,” says owner and artisan Carlie Ring. “I choose each center gemstone based on its moon-lit glow and how the multiple colors found within mimic the phases of the moon—the night sky over the sea or the way the sky lights up with the warm hues of a sunset. They’re all created to bring their unique stories to life!”

While this variation has sold (of course it has), another, brighter style featuring a bicolor tourmaline—called Springtime Tidal Moon—is currently available. Shown above, you can see that it’s aptly named and quite the songbird to its moodier counterpart, truly like day and night. “I love how the tourmalines I use are cut so that the colors mimic the phases of the moon,” says Ring.

While other variations of the style are available (in rings as well as pendants, with gemstones such as aquamarine, opal, and topaz, in addition to various bicolor and tricolor tourmalines), the creator says she’s working on a new range of styles to the collection with tourmaline, diamond, opal, and malachite/azurite.
