Picture This: Grand Palais–Inspired Windows at Cartier on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan

For a taste of Paris in Manhattan this fall, head to Fifth Avenue at 52nd Street to see the window displays at Cartier. The jeweler has constructed silvery-tone metal architectural silhouettes to call to mind imagery of the Grand Palais in Paris.

The unique structures serve as a backdrop, of course, to the gorgeous jewels on display; some pieces even echo the shapes of framework.

“The architectural silhouettes were designed to evoke the faceted glass panels and fine steel framework of the roof of the Grand Palais, upon which the Panther, Cartier’s icon, paces,” explains Emmy Lambert, director of media relations.

“The Grand Palais was the source of inspiration for the window designs because of its significance in Cartier’s history—past and present. Cartier was founded by Louis-François Cartier in 1847; in 1899, the Maison moved to a new location at 13 rue de la Paix, which became the Paris flagship. The opening of 13 rue de la Paix coincided with the construction of the Grand Palais for the Universal Exhibition of 1900.”
