Britt’s Pick: Dima Jewellery’s Yellow Jade Fox Head Ring

In my search for cocktail rings last week, I came across a creation so wonderfully whimsical that I had to save it for its very own post.

A handcarved likeness of a fox, honed out of yellow jade, is the centerpiece of this ring from Egyptian brand Dima Jewellery. I find it the perfect style for the holidays, as eccentric animals seem to be all the rage this time of year. Do you also notice the abundance of fanciful woodland animal ornaments available for sale, ready to decorate the Christmas tree all dolled up in sweaters, robes, and even crowns?

Visit a department store window, or view a vignette created as inspiration for holiday decor, and you’ll find all manner of creatures ready to start their holiday. A penguin sips hot cocoa, a reindeer holds a marshmallow to toast on the fire, a cat slips on a pair of ice skates. It feels very Wes Anderson and entirely wondrous, a program I want to envelop myself in all holiday long.

This bejeweled lady (I like to think it’s a lady, though perhaps not?) is the version to adorn oneself with, the carry-along model of playful holiday fun. Goodness knows we all need a bit of fun this year, and my foxy madam is packed with it. Glowing eyes of green emeralds bespectacled in gold, with a diamond-shining crown atop her head to match—if you’re also a fan of the Netflix series The Crown, the piece might especially speak to you. I can almost hear her saying, in a very proper accent, “What jolly good fun the holidays are,” can’t you?

In any case, as we get dressed up to celebrate—or whether we don’t—this is an accessory worth donning this year, and in the years to come, in any month, though especially in December (and maybe August too, as jade is a birthstone for that month).

Dima Jewellery was founded in 2003 by designer Dima Rashid, whose personal history—she was born in Kuwait, raised in Canada, and has Palestinian roots—influences her handcrafted pieces. Working from her studio in Cairo, Rashid creates utterly gorgeous gold jewelry and styles featuring ethically sourced gemstones, as well as one-of-a-kind pieces.
