After undergoing a mastectomy during treatment for breast cancer, San Marino, Calif.–based Anabel Higgins turned to jewelry design for some relief and a creative outlet. She started making antique-inspired medals in silver and gold, eventually deciding to debut her Anabel Higgins Jewelry in 2013. Now a portion of proceeds from the collection are donated to cancer-related nonprofits.
“Anabel Higgins Jewelry sustains my soul during this journey and adds beauty to others,” she tells JCK.
Higgins is committed to donating at least 25 percent of net profits to charity. To date, she’s given about $4,000 to three charities in southern California: City of Hope, Pasadena Cancer Support Community, and Huntington-Hill Breast Center. As her business grows, “so will the donations,” she notes.
