World Diamond Council Names Executive Director

Marie-Chantal Kaninda is a veteran of De Beers and Rio Tinto

The World Diamond Council (WDC) has named Marie-Chantal Kaninda its new executive director.

A resident of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kaninda previously worked for De Beers as administration and external manager for the DRC. She also served as chief advisor, external affairs, Africa, for Rio Tinto.

She currently chairs the DRC’s Anti-Corruption Initiative for the Private Sector and sits on the boards of the Diamond Development Initiative and ProCredit Bank.

Kaninda replaces Patricia Syvrud, who is leaving the group Feb. 28.

In her new role, Kaninda will be providing overall leadership to the organization, liaising and developing relationships with key stakeholders, and coordinating the representation of the WDC within the Kimberley Process.
