AGS Announces CEO Search

Ruth Batson announced in February that she will retire next summer

The American Gem Society (AGS) has announced that the search for a new CEO has begun.

CEO Ruth Batson (pictured), who has helmed the organization since 2002, announced in February that she will retire in the summer of 2017.

“Ruth will be a tough act to follow, and we appreciate that she has provided ample notice so that we can transition the new CEO under her guidance,” said Louis Smith, CEO of Smithworks Fine Jewelry and chair of the committee leading the search. “We are giving much thought and consideration to this search process. It’s important that we find someone who is committed to the American Gem Society and AGS Laboratories’ mission of consumer protection.”

Other members of the search committee include Scott Berg of Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, Ed Bridge of Ben Bridge Jeweler, John Carter of Jack Lewis Jewelers, Mark Moeller of R.F. Moeller Jeweler, and Yancy Weinrich of Reed Exhibitions and JCK Events.

The organization has partnered with the nonprofit executive search firm Carlson Beck to aid in the search.

The job listing is available on the AGS website and interested parties are invited to contact Carlson Beck.

The deadline for applications is Sept. 9.
