Birks Group Comps Rise 3 Percent

Birks Group, which enjoyed double-digit same-store increases over the last year, saw its comp gains slow to 3 percent in its latest quarter.

Overall comps for its first quarter of fiscal 2016 (ended June 27) rose 3 percent, thanks to a 6 percent gain in Canada and 1 percent jump in the United States.

Most of the U.S. growth came from timepiece sales, while the Canadian gains stemmed from a combination of timepiece and jewelry sales.

Total consolidated net sales for the quarter decreased by 3.8 percent to $71.4 million.
