G.M. Pollack & Sons Closing Down

G.M. Pollack & Sons, a once-prominent six-decades-old Maine jeweler, is shutting down.

An employee who answered the phone at the company’s South Portland location told JCK that the store was the last one open. The employee said it was also closing but said there was no set date.

In June, the company’s Facebook page said that the company was consolidating from 12 stores to five. Its website still lists seven locations, all in Maine, but according to Maine news sources—including the Portland Press Herald and local station WCSH—all but the South Portland location have closed down.

A store manager told WCSH: “We are going out of business, there is no longer a company.”

Messages left with the company’s president, main voice mail box, and its Facebook page were not returned at press time.

The company was founded by Gerald M. Pollack in 1955, eventually growing to 13 stores in Maine and New Hampshire.  In 2009, the company was purchased by employees following the retirement of president Stan Pollack, Gerald’s son.
