J.C. Penney will shutter around 40 of its stores by April, a spokesperson told JCK.
More than 2,000 jobs will be lost.
The full list of closing stores can be seen here.
A company statement stressed that number represents less than 4 percent of its store base, and that the company still comprises 1,020 locations.
“While it’s never an easy decision to close stores, especially due to the impact on our valued associates and customers, we feel this is a necessary business decision,” said a company statement.
The news comes as the company announced a better-than-expected holiday comp increase of 3.7 percent.
