Diamond Dealers Club Director Hochbaum Retires

Dr. Martin Hochbaum, who served as managing director of the Diamond Dealers Club of New York for 17 years, retired on July 31.

David Lasher, who formerly served as director of marketing and development for the DDC, now serves as managing director. He is just the fifth person to hold that role in the club’s 80-year history.

“I learned a tremendous amount from Dr. Hochbaum in the few years we worked together,” Lasher says. “It will be incredibly hard to fill his shoes.”

In addition to his DDC role, Hochbaum served as chair of the United States Kimberley Process Authority.

Hochbaum tells JCK he is interested in pursuing consulting opportunities and can be reached via email at Martin_Hochbaum at hotmail.com.

“I look forward to continuing to work with members of the industry, with whom I have developed many close personal and professional relationships over the years,” Hochbaum says.

A former academic and author who has testified before congressional committees, Hochbaum was director of national affairs for the American Jewish Congress before taking on the role managing the DDC.
