Woman Finds Pearl in Oyster

A woman discovered a pearl while eating raw oysters in Virginia Beach, Va.

Maureen Kelly was dining at Ocean House Waterfront Seafood Restaurant when she made her discovery. The oyster was from the Chesapeake Bay.

The odds of finding a pearl this way are one in 10,000 to one in 12,000, depending on the mollusk, Beth Firchau, curator of fishes at the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, told The Virginian Pilot.

The pearl is the size of a Red Hot candy, and Kelly plans to wear it on a necklace.
