4 Kooky January Jewelry Stories

Well, 2014 is off to a sparkling weird start.

Here are four January kooky headlines that made JCK editors scratch their heads.

1. Jewelry That Ensures You Aren’t Missing Any Chromosomes

An electron microscopist in the U.K. is designing 3D-printed jewelry in the shape of chromosomes. The collection has a Kickstarter page that offers rings, earrings, pendants, bracelets, and cufflinks as rewards for donating money. The jewelry is made from stainless steel, silver, and bronze, and features everyone’s favorite XX and XY chromosome designs. Jewelry will also be available in the rare XXY; trisomy 21, the configuration for Down syndrome; and karyotype.

2. No Hands, No Problem

There must be something in the water over there in the U.K. A 48-year-old goldsmith is manufacturing jewelry with no hands. No hands. Annette Gabbedey told the Daily Mail that “fingers must just get in the way.” There are jewelers with all of their extremities that don’t produce stuff this beautiful!

3. Tooth Fairy Debuts New Jewelry Line

Last year saw the rise of blood, eyeball, and breast milk jewelry, so baby tooth jewelry was the next logical evolution. And, of course, it’s featured on HBO’s Girls.

4. How Clyde Might Have Proposed to Bonnie

Nothing says brotherly love like a crime spree.
