Apple Will Have Smartwatch to Watch, Survey Says

Consumers are not interested in Samsung’s new smartwatch, but they might take a look at Apple’s new offering, according to a survey.

Of the consumers surveyed by MVI Marketing’s Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council, 64 percent of those who wear a watch regularly said they were not likely to buy the Samsung Galaxy Gear. In addition, 78 percent of current watch non-wearers said they were not likely to purchase the Samsung smartwatch.

The JCOC notes, however, that a previous survey found much higher interest in the rumored Apple iWatch, with nearly two-thirds of watch wearers saying they would switch to an Apple timepiece, and 58 percent of watch non-wearers expressing interest.

“Although respondents to this study found the technology exciting, the lack of style/fashion in the Samsung [Galaxy] Gear watch has already put it behind the iWatch,” Liz Chatelain, president of MVI Marketing, said in a statement. “This is significant because Apple is always considered a style leader, and the iWatch hasn’t even launched yet.”
