David Yurman Enterprises is suing Artifex and Bonato Milano 1960, claiming its confidentially agreement was breached in the Italian companies’ quest to sell a knock-off of Yurman’s Signature Pinky Ring.
According to a complaint filed Oct. 15 in New York State Supreme Court, company founder David Yurman signed a deal in 2012 with Artifex owner Armando Pasini to produce certain products, including the Yurman Signature Pinky Ring. After they signed a confidentiality agreement, Yurman provided Artifex with the ring’s specs as well as a mold, the suit says.
Eventually, however, the collaboration fizzled. But, the suit states, reps for Yurman’s company saw an “obvious copy” of their ring at a Bonato Milano booth at Baselworld 2013 trade show.
The suit, which notes that Pasini owns both Bonato Milano and Artifex, claims the alleged knock-offs closely resemble a sample Yurman ring Artifex created during their partnership and were made using confidential information.
The suit’s causes of action incluse allegations of charges breach of contract, tortious interference with contractual relations, and misappropriation. It seeks unspecified damages and the return of all of Yurman’s proprietary information.
At press time, Artifex and Bonato Milano had not filed a response. They could not be reached for comment.
