Helzberg’s 2012 Sales Rose 20 Percent, Retail Report Says

Helzberg Diamonds’ 2012 sales rose 20 percent over the previous year, according to Stores magazine’s “Hot 100 Retailers list.”

The chain ranked ninth on the list, which ranks retailers by annual sales growth. The magazine reported that the company’s sales rose 20.5 percent over 2011 figures, hitting $692 million.

The North Kansas City, Mo.-based jeweler, which is part of the Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate, does not typically release broken-out sales and financial reports. The magazine says its numbers are based on consulting firm Kantar Retail’s research and company reports.

Helzberg declined comment on the numbers.

Two other big names in mass jewelry retail—Zale and Signet—also had entries on the list.

Zale’s came in 63rd, showing 8.1 percent growth in U.S. year-over-year sales to reach $1.5 billion. In 77th place was Signet; though it had a less eye-catching 7.3 percent margin of growth in U.S. sales, it registered a higher $3.3 billion total.
