Apple May Launch Smartwatch This Year

Apple could launch its much-anticipated smartwatch this year, according to several reports.

Apple wants to introduce the watch sometime in 2013, according to an unnamed source quoted by Bloomberg. The report was later backed up by a tech site, The Verge, which added that the planned watch will run on Apple’s IOS operating system.

Bloomberg quoted sources as saying the new watches could let users “see the identity of incoming callers and check map coordinates. It would also house a pedometer for counting steps and sensors for monitoring health-related data, such as heart rates.”

The big issue, according to The Verge: battery life. While Apple had hoped the watch would last four to five days between charges, it currently doesn’t last more than a few days.
