Joy Englebert, who sold ads for JCK for more than two decades, died of cancer Feb. 24 at age 70.

Englebert first joined what was then known as Chilton Publishing’s international division in the 1970s, recalls daughter Heather Wertley. She eventually transitioned to JCK, where she worked as a regional sales rep until her retirement in 2003. She was one of two sales reps who stayed with the magazine when most of its then-staff left to form Professional Jeweler in 1997.

“Chilton and JCK just meant everything to her,” says Wertley. “It’s amazing the career that she had. She didn’t just make business relationships, but personal relationships that extended well past her time there.”

Her longtime colleague Bill Furman recalls she was one of the first female sales reps at Chilton. “She really was a pioneer,” he says.  

Engelbert is survived by three daughters and three grandchildren. Her husband, Fred Stanley, who also worked at Chilton, died in 2005.

A funeral will be held at Wayne Presbyterian Church in Wayne, Pa., March 2, at 12 p.m.
