Swiss Competition Commission Investigating Swatch

ComCo, the Swiss Competition Commission, is opening an
investigation against Swatch Group over its distribution plans
, the company
announced on its website June 8.

The world’s largest watchmaker said it initiated the
investigation, meant to determine which mutually agreed solution is
available to allow Swatch Group to gradually reduce its deliveries of
mechanical watch movements and assortments to third parties.

Company CEO Nick Hayek recently complained to Dow
Jones Newswire
: “There is no industry in the world where one player
should be obliged to sell the most important component to competitors.” The
company’s dominant position means it needs regulator approval before it halts
deliveries.
