Silver Sales Hit Records

Some 87 percent of jewelers said their silver jewelry sales
increased in 2010, according to a survey of 340 retailers conducted in early
February by Nielsen/National Jeweler for
the Silver Promotion Service.

Among those jewelers, 52 percent said their silver
sales grew between 11 percent and 25 percent, and 28 percent saw more than a 25
percent jump.

In addition, some 57 percent of jewelers said silver
jewelry gave them a better margin than diamond or gold products.

“The 2010 results exceeded the corresponding record numbers
from 2009,” said Michael Barlerin, director of the Silver Promotion Service.
“Additionally, based on retailer feedback, the momentum behind silver jewelry
has significant future implications for the role it plays in the market and
will for years to come.”
