Watch Companies Make Timely Response to Katrina Disaster

The watch industry responded quickly to the hurricane disasters in September on the U.S. Gulf Coast, making sizable donations for Red Cross relief efforts. Examples included Rolex Watch USA, which donated $1 million, and also matched contributions from employees. Citizen Watch of America gave $100,000. German prince Wolfgang of Bavaria, who has a luxury watch brand, donated a $9,700 timepiece to auction to benefit Katrina victims. Hublotdonated a Big Bang watch [pictured] which raised $18,000 when it was auctioned on eBay. Seiko Corp. of America matched employee donations, dollar for dollar.
