It hasn’t been a stellar year for platinum. Soaring prices and fashion’s rediscovered passion for yellow gold are giving the former trendsetting metal a run for its money.
However, Platinum Guild International—platinum’s public relations arm, which is credited in large part with the metal’s 1990s renaissance—refuses to sit back quietly and be overlooked. On the contrary, PGI screamed platinum’s message into the reverberating eardrums of a thousand designers, retailers, and editors at its Couture Collection and Conference event. While known for its fashion show events and fashion focus, PGI grabbed attention with a rock party, complete with a risqué fashion show and a performance by the international music group The Corrs.
