What’s Selling in Stores: Last-Minute Holiday Gifts

Just a few days before Christmas, we asked retailers across the country to share their best-selling gift styles.

DeJonghe Original Jewelry, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Emerald-cut blue topaz pendant with .05 ct. t.w. diamonds in a white gold setting with a palladium bail, $345 (chain not included).

“We posted this pendant [on Facebook] as one of our ‘Countdown to Christmas’ pieces. The design is simple, but it really caught on,” says store owner and designer Dennis deJonghe. “It took us by surprise.”

C. Aaron Peñaloza Jewelers, San Antonio, Texas. Angelique de Paris bracelets. Pictured: Veranda Vermeil sterling silver bracelets with 18k gold plating, $435.

“It’s very colorful and a wonderfully inexpensive stocking stuffer,” says store manager David Horn.

Rose City Jeweler, Madison, N.J. Charriol necklaces. Pictured: Celtic Classique 18k white gold, stainless steel nautical cable with 0.25 ct. t.w. diamonds, $1,495.

“It’s a lot of look, a lot of fashion, and not a horrific amount of money,” notes store owner and gemologist Joseph Falco, Jr.

Hofmeister Personal Jewelers, Indianapolis, Ind. Diamonds by the Yard. Pictured: 14k white gold necklace with 3.04 cts. t.w. diamonds, $3,941.

“People are looking for basics, versus high fashion,” says store owner Carter Hofmeister. “They’re spending money on things they can wear every day.”
