Wealthy Consumers Rate Luxury Web sites

High net-worth consumers rated Net-a-Porter the most prestigious luxury e-tailer, according to a Luxury Institute survey.

Respondents recommended Net-a-porter say, “It has truly unique merchandise,” and “fashion forward items pulled together in new and current ways,” according to the 2008 Luxury Brand Status Index. Vivre.com and Yoox.com ranked second and third respectively.

“Luxury e-tailers are becoming an important category in the luxury retailing space, but they have a way to go in carving out their luxury credentials,” said Milton Pedraza, chief executive officer of the Luxury Institute. “Wealthy consumer ratings and comments in this survey indicate that there are key areas of opportunity to improve the customer experience and to differentiate brands. This is the only way these new brands can thrive online against the online sites of major luxury offline retailers.”

Following are the seven luxury e-tailers that were rated (alphabetical
order):

1. Bluefly.com
2. CoutureLab.com
3. eLUXURY.com
4. Net-a-Porter.com
5. Shopbop.com
6. Vivre.com
7. Yoox.com

The proprietary Luxury Brand Status Index measures the prestige of leading brands among wealthy Americans. The Luxury Institute, based in New York, is a ratings, reviews and research firm.
