A trial has begun in the case of a California jeweler charged with knowingly buying stolen merchandise, according to local news sources.

According to The Tribune, a local newspaper, William Roger McBurney, owner of San Luis Obispo, Calif.–based jeweler All That Glitters, allegedly paid $204 for a stolen diamond worth $20,000, and $132 for a stolen piece of sapphire jewelry valued at $4,500. Prosecutors also claim he made the purchases without the proper secondhand licenses.

A prosecutor told the court McBurney knew the pieces were stolen “because of the ridiculously low amount he paid for the items,” the newspaper says.

The jeweler has reportedly been charged with two counts of receiving stolen property and one charge of conducting secondhand business without a licenese.

McBurney has pled not guilty. Following his arrest his PR rep told the local press: “All that Glitters, for 30 years, has always and will continue helping law enforcement in any way possible to solve crimes and recover jewelry back to its rightful owners.”
