On June 23, Sterling Jewelers announced the appointment of Michael
Smith as vice president, e-commerce.
In his new role, Smith will have overall leadership
responsibility for Sterling’s strategic definition, development, and execution
of the company-wide e-commerce channel.
Smith brings with him more than 32 years of retail marketing
and e-commerce experience. He began as an assistant buyer at Kay Jewelers, then
worked at Montgomery Ward, Zales, The Limited, Spiegel-Group, Newgistics, and
Home Depot. Most recently he was vice president,
retail marketing with Channel Intelligence.
A recent
survey by Internet Retailer put Sterling, the world’s largest retail
jeweler, as only the 15th largest e-seller of jewelry, taking in an
estimated $25 million, behind Diamond Nexus Labs, which sells imitation
diamonds.
“With Michael’s experience and background, we look forward
to further strengthening our marketing strategies,” said Mark Light, president
and chief executive officer of Sterling Jewelers, in a statement.
