Spotlight: EDGE*nyNOHO

Last night New York’s innovative shopping collective EDGE*nyNOHO co-hosted an evening of “shopping, sips, and sweats” together with online shopping magazine BussBuss. EDGE*nyNOHO, featured in Luxury (Jennifer Heebner’s “Retailing by Other Means,” Spring 2006), is home to over 65 designers—of clothes, accessories, and jewelry—who above all, are unique. As for the jewels?

  • Hot dog! The charming Michael Zirulnik of The Varsity Project (named after his childhood black lab, Varsity) was on hand. VP merges a vintage aesthetic with quality workmanship, offering pieces that speak to individuality. I kept visiting the sterling silver decanter-tag bracelet (it came home with me), while Maria Reyes narrowed down her picks to two … but I’ll let her describe them. Zirulnik says that VP’s triple cross pendant in varying tones of oxidized copper have become Miami’s vice.
  • Desideri Design’s necklace with a trio of large, smooth, and amorphous black onyx pieces on an adjustable gold chain was a sexy standout. The line also features rings with clusters of Swarovski crystals. I like the black, reminiscent of glistening caviar.
  • Mesh NY’s asymmetrical heart silhouettes were playful confections—without being cloying. A heart surgeon recently wiped out her stock for holiday gifts. Nice! Other great pieces include nontraditionally geometric pendants in their signature mesh look, in vermeil or sterling silver.
  • Riding the crest of the cuff trend, Judith Hass showcased brushed gold versions with gemstones—like a stunning elongated tiger’s eye—that rotate for added interest.

Good graciousness—the nightcap was a generous swag bag for all.
