Sophie Leu Donates Jadeite Sculpture to GIA

The Gemological Institute of America has received a carved natural jadeite sculpture of a leaping carp from Sophie Leu, who has made several jadeite donations to the Institute in recent years. The piece will be displayed as part of the Institute’s Museum Collection at the Robert Mouawad Campus in Carlsbad.

The sculpture measures approximately 10.5 inches wide, 5 inches tall and 1.5 inches deep. In addition to the carp, it features lingzhi mushrooms and lotus flowers, leaves, and fruit.

Leu previously donated a jadeite teapot and four cups, as well as two jadeite rings. She has also loaned a large jadeite bowl and another jadeite sculpture, “The Eight Immortals,” to GIA for display.
