Silver Institute Celebrates 40th Anniversary; Celebrities Receive Edward Mirell; and More Supplier News From December 2011

A roundup of the latest manufacturer announcements and press releases to hit our inbox here at JCK Marketplace, the jewelry industry’s essential sourcing site.

Celebrities Get Edward Mirell Gifts in Y100 Jingle Ball Swag Bags

Celebrities participating in this year’s Jingle, including Kelly Clarkson, David Guetta, Travie McCoy, and members of Foster the People, were surprised with something special this year. Each received a selection of Edward Mirell pieces including necklaces and bracelets from the men and women’s collections. This is the second year in a row that the award-winning jeweler has been asked to participate in the event, held yearly in south Florida.

Adam Rosenberg, director of business development for Edward Mirell, says, “We were proud to be asked to participate again this year in this incredible event. It is both humbling and moving when artists embrace the collections that our Edward Mirell design team pours their heart into.”

The best part? Seeing celebrities jump at the chance to wear the brand’s new accessories. The Script’s lead singer Danny O’Donoghue, for example, immediately wore his new pendant to perform onstage. Sounds like the jewelry was a hit for the second year in a row–perhaps the designer will go back for a third?

The Silver Institute Celebrates 40th Anniversary With a Fashion Show

On Nov. 16, New York’s Princeton Club was transformed into a festive catwalk. The Silver Institute, celebrating 40 years, paired cocktail hour with a fashion show highlighting standout jewelry trends from the 1970s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. Brands including bastian inverun, DeLatori, GeoArt by Cynthia Gale, GURHAN, Kelim Jewelry Design, Old World Chain, Metalsmiths Sterling, Paz Collective, SunJewels, Thistle & Bee, and William Schraft (all Savor Silver Program participants) helped to showcase the transformation of silver jewelry over the last four decades.

Mike DiRienzo, executive director of the Silver Institute, said he was thrilled with the event’s turnout. “We were exceptionally happy that so many friends and associates from the silver industry joined us to celebrate the Silver Institute’s 40th anniversary. Their reaction to the jewelry and fashion show organized by our SPS team was wonderful.”

The Silver Institute Has Another Reason to Celebrate

No doubt still buzzing from its 40th anniversary celebration, the Silver Institute was at it again, this time for the 2011 Miracle on Madison Avenue. The philanthropic shopping event, held this year on Dec. 4, celebrated the event’s Silver Anniversary and 25 years in support of the Children’s Aid Society of New York. As one of the lead sponsors, the Silver Institute: Silver Promotion Service (SPS) was on hand to co-host the event with luxury lifestyle brand Georg Jensen. Georg Jensen Legacy Bowls were available for a donation of $150.

Said Michael Barlerin, SPS director: “The opportunity to support the Children’s Aid Society and the retailers on Madison Avenue who focus on silver jewelry and gifts on the events’ silver anniversary offered a unique set of circumstances. This is the first step in a program to promote silver as the 25th anniversary gift.”

The Children’s Aid Society, an independent not-for-profit organization established to help New York City’s children in poverty, was founded in 1853 and remains one of the largest and most innovative non-sectarian agencies.
