Showcase Ireland supports America

In a rare move for a foreign trade show, officials representing “Showcase Ireland” and representatives of the Irish government held the trade show’s official launch in New York, rather than Dublin.

The show-featuring fine jewelry, accessories, and gifts, will be held Jan. 20 to Jan. 23 in Dublin.

Among the Irish dignitaries who hosted the official launch and celebration of the 26th annual trade fair on Monday was Ireland’s Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment Mary Harney. Harney said the events of Sept. 11 and Ireland’s empathy and support for Americans prompted the New York event as a small gesture of support for the United States.

“With these uncertain times, we want to show our support to our friends and contacts in the United States and assure U.S. retailers that Showcase Ireland is thriving and will host a record number of exhibitors and new products,” said Dr. Frances Ruane, chairperson of the Crafts Council of Ireland.

For information on the fair, contact Ruairi Curtin at Enterprise Ireland (212) 546-0468.
