Wal-Mart announced that Rosalind G. Brewer, former president of the Wal-Mart U.S. east business unit, will replace Brian Cornell as Sam’s Club president and CEO. Cornell is leaving the company to move closer to his family in the Northeast.

“We are very intentional about developing talent to meet the needs of our rapidly growing business worldwide,” Mike Duke, Wal-Mart president and CEO, said in a statement. “The promotions we are announcing today are clear evidence that our succession and management development programs work, and that we have highly talented, well-rounded and experienced business leaders ready to step into larger roles when the opportunities arise.”
