Robert Wan to lay off 400 pearl farm workers

The empire of black pearl headed by Robert Wan seems to be in trouble, the Tahiti presse news agency reports.

Robert Wan’s pearl company, “Tahiti Perles,” will lay off about 400 employees working in pearl farms in the Tuamotu and Gambier archipelago, the regional news agency reported.

However, “Tahiti Perles” told the news agency that all the employees will get their job back after a six-months period. During this period, laid-off employees should receive 10% of their wages.

“Tahiti Perles” is one of the main pearl producers of French Polynesia. Other pearl producers have also said that they will lay off some of their employees.
