“Gemological
Heresies” will be the topic of the Gemological Institute of America’s 47th Gemstone
Gathering in Bangkok on June 29.

Richard W. Hughes, a well-known gemstone expert and author, will provide a presentation meant to challenge the longstanding beliefs associated
with gemological science. He will draw from his experience as an author of Ruby & Sapphire and co-author of Terra Spinel, as well as 100 articles
about gemology.

Hughes is the senior vice president of Hong Kong–based Sino
Resources Mining Corporation, which mines sapphire in Laos and Australia.

The event is free but an RSVP is suggested by June 27 to the
