Providence Announces Plan to Revitalize Jewelry District

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras announced March 16 that the city’s new partnership with technology giant IBM would in part go to revitalize its jewelry district.

Providence will work with IBM to develop a computerized land management system for the area, which some now call “The Knowledge District,” in recognition of its growing high-tech component.

The system will be used for streamlining permitting, marketing the land opened up by the relocation of I-195 to prospective investors, and tracking progress in greening the district.
