Philadelphia Tops Poll of Online Shopping Cities

Philadelphia placed first nationwide for overall online holiday shopping this year in a recent poll of the top 20 U.S. markets.

In a poll of more than 13,000 internet users by Zogby Interactive/AOL Shopping, 79.3 percent of respondents in Philadelphia say they plan to shop online this year. Second on the list is Boston with 78.6 percent of respondents saying they will shop for the holidays online, followed by Seattle and Orlando, Fla., both with 78 percent.

Nationwide, 74 percent of poll respondents plan to do at least some holiday shopping online and 26 percent plan to spend at least half of their holiday shopping dollars online.

Orlando ranked first on the list of U.S. markets where people say they plan to reduce their overall holiday shopping budgets this year. About 48 percent of Orlando respondents say they will spend less, followed by Washington (42.5 percent), Miami (41.8 percent), and Detroit (40.3 percent).

The top reasons listed by those who plan to cut spending this year were concerns about the economy and increases in heating fuel and gas prices.
