PGI-USA appoints O’Connor to PR and trade position in the eastern U.S.

Michael O’Connor has been named Senior Vice President, Public Relations & Trade Relations East for Platinum Guild International USA.

O’Connor will open PGI-USA’s New York office, which will serve as the official headquarters for PGI’s public relations function for the United States. With a New York presence, PGI-USA’s President Huw Daniel, who made the announcement Monday, said the organization is ready to support their aggressive new outreach programs, which are designed to enable retailers and manufactures to better convert heightened consumer demand for platinum into bottom line sales.

“More than ever, platinum offers the U.S. jewelry industry one of the greatest business opportunities, as increasing consumer demand far outstrips actual platinum jewelry sales,” Daniel said in a staement.

O’Connor joins PGI-USA from Goldstein Communications where as vice president, he managed public relations and marketing for an array of fine jewelry and fashion brands. He has worked as a consultant to the Couture Jewelry Collection and Conference, Luxury, Luxury Watch, and JCK shows and served on the advisory board of The Plumb Club.

O’Connor is a jewelry and fashion expert, with more than 23 years experience, appearing regularly on live national and regional television discussing current trends. As a guest lecturer at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the JCK Show, O’Connor has spoken to audiences on the topics of jewelry and fashion design, consumer trends, public relations, marketing and branding.

Prior to Goldstein Communications, O’Connor was Director of Corporate Marketing for Frederick Goldman, Inc., where he was responsible for marketing, public relations, advertising and brand development for their entire portfolio of brands, including the Goldman and B.F. Hirsch trade brands, and the Keepsake, ArtCarved, Diana Classic, and Diana Couture consumer brands.

“Michael’s stature in the industry and experience in the manufacturing, retail, and institutional sectors will be invaluable to PGI-USA as we execute our new strategies and deepen our partnerships with the trade, Daniel said.”

O’Connor will report to Daniel and will be responsible for developing, directing, and monitoring all public relations and publicity programs in the U.S. Additionally, he will build on existing relationships and develop new relationships with key East Coast manufactures, designers, and retailers, develop synergies with appropriate brands and companies, and establish, and maintain relationships with trade associations and institutions. He will work alongside PGI-USA’s Vice President Frank Proctor, and Director of Trade Relations for Center & West, Jenny Luker, based in Newport Beach, Calif., where PGI-USA is headquartered.
