Rochester-area police Tuesday said an SUV-type vehicle drove through the front doors of a local Kmart, zipped down the aisles to the jewelry counter, paused as the thief or thieves grabbed an unknown amount of jewelry, and backed out of the store after midnight Tuesday morning, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports.
Police said the vehicle most likely had “extensive front-end damage,” the newspaper reports.
Police reportedly said two Kmart workers who were in the store—located in the town of Irondequoit, north of Rochester—at the time took cover and called 911. Police reportedly estimated store damage at more than $20,000.
Kmart spokesman Steve Pagnani reportedly said the store opened a little late Tuesday morning but will remain open during regular hours while repairs are made.
