Pa. Jeweler Accused of Not Returning Items

The District Attorney’s office in Cumberland Country, Pa., is investigating a jewelry store after customers reportedly complained the jeweler never returned their items brought in for repair.

Lower Allen Township police lieutenant Gregory Thomas tells JCK that police have received roughly 30 complaints from customers of Capital City Jewelers in Camp Hill, Pa., beginning in August 2010.

“We’ve received complaints from people dropping off items for repair and not being able to get them back,” Thomas says.

Thomas says the store never officially closed, but police believe the store owner abandoned the store in February or March.

Police have not been able to get in contact with the store owner, Thomas says.

The case has been handed over to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s office. Thomas says the district attorney will determine what charges to file, if any, and will investigate the status of the jewelry.

The Cumberland District Attorney’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
