The jewels on Oscar night were sparse as the gowns were busy with beading, ruffles, and metallic accents, and, more asymmetrical necklines. Blackened metals complemented some of the former while large earrings balanced out the latter. Of course, there were a few statement-piece standouts, such as Helen Mirren’s diamond necklace from Chopard, Kate Winslet’s Tiffany & Co. custom yellow diamond necklace, and Carey Mulligan’s 19th-century Fred Leighton cascading diamond earrings. There’s also Kathy Ireland, whose heavy jewelry wardrobe quite possibly made up for all the stars whose sparkle was lacking. Which look was your fav? I can tell you which one was not my fav: Charlize Theron. The rosettes on the dress were awkwardly placed and the jewelry underwhelmed.
Sandra Bullock (Best Actress in a Leading role) in her own diamond drop earrings and line bracelet from Neil Lane. I would have liked to see bigger earrings.
Mo’Nique (Best Actress in a Supporting Role) in Chopard princess-cut yellow diamond tennis bracelet; radiant-cut light yellow diamond line bracelet totaling 46 cts.; and a radiant-cut fancy yellow and white diamond earrings totaling 17 cts. Very nice look, love the yellow diamonds and royal blue dress.
Helen Mirren in Chopard oval diamond necklace totaling 125 cts. t.w., fancy and rose-cut diamond cuff, and diamond pear-shape drop earrings totaling 9.00 cts. Beautiful look, I love it!
Kate Winslet in Tiffany & Co. yellow diamond necklace created exclusively for her by the company (value $2.5 million), plus Tiffany & Co. yellow diamond bracelets and diamond drop earrings totaling 10.00 cts. Very nice, tasteful.
Carey Mulligan (at the Vanity Fair after party) in Fred Leighton 19th-century cascading diamond pendant earrings with diamond briolettes, Everlon diamond knot ring in 18k gold, and a 19th-century pear-shape diamond ring totaling 2.50 cts. t.w. The earrings are outstanding, especially for a strapless gown.
Charlize Theron in Harry Winston’s marquise diamond wave bracelet and diamond cluster earrings totaling 17.25 cts. Odd dress, jewelry just ok.
Jennifer Lopez in Cartier diamond and platinum bracelet and earrings and a diamond Panthere Maillon XXl ring in white gold. Pretty dress, not enough jewelry.
Is it too much jewelry and too much matching jewelry???
