The diamond trade should be proud of its “resilience in
2010,” De Beers chairman Nicky Oppenheimer told the DTC Trading Company’s
recent sightholder reception.
“Now is the
time to build on the recovery by making the most of the opportunities emerging
across the industry,” Oppenheimer said.
DTC managing director Varda Shine, who also spoke, noted
that as the recovery continues, the industry has to “win the hearts and minds
of the iPod and iPad generation.”
As the DTC begins to process applications for its 2012–2015
contract period, Shine said, “Sightholder selection decisions will continue to
be based on strong business fundamentals and an ability to add value.”
