Artis Capital Management, a San Francisco hedge fund that was as an early investor in YouTube, now controls 11 percent of the stock of Charles & Colvard, the sole distributor of moissanite.
The investment firm owns 2.2 million shares of the company stock, it revealed in a 13G filed on Feb. 14. On Sept. 30, it reported owning 1.16 million shares.
On Feb. 16, Charles & Colvard reported that its 2010 sales were up 53 percent.
