Missing man’s car yields no evidence of crime

Police said they found no evidence of a crime Friday after searching the recovered vehicle of John R. Slayton, a jewelry dealer who disappeared after visiting several pawnshops in St. Louis County on Tuesday.

But they would say nothing else about the case, the St. Post-Dispatch reports Saturday.

A maintenance worker called police about 8 a.m. Friday after noticing Slayton’s 2003 Ford Expedition parked in the lot of the Black Forest Apartment complex on Innsbruck Drive in south St. Louis County.

Slayton, 63, of Osage Beach, Mo., called his wife about 2 p.m. Tuesday and was expected to return home that evening. His family has not heard from him since. Police were concerned because of the nature of his work.

Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Louis County Police DePartment at 314-889-2341.
