‘Million Miles’ drawing raises nearly $36,000 for children’s charities

Someone from Suberi Brothers Inc. will most likely be doing a lot of traveling for the next few years. That’s because the company was the grand-prize winner in a drawing for a million miles that can go toward air travel, hotels, and other items.

The drawing, called “One Million Miles for Kids’ Smiles,” was a fund-raiser for the Jewelers Charity Fund for Children. The event was sponsored by the Plumb Club of New York State.

The benefit raised $35,735 for JCF, said Patricia Light, JCF executive director, and Michael Paolercio, Plumb Club president and chairman and CEO of Michael Anthony Jewelers. The drawing was held Friday afternoon at the Plumb Club Pavilion during The JCK Show ~ Las Vegas 2003. As the winner, Suberi Brothers, also a Plumb Club member, will receive 500,000 American Express Miles and 500,000 Marriott Rewards Points.

JCF was created by representatives of the jewelry industry with the mission of raising money for charities that primarily benefit children. Yearlong fundraising is conducted through a canister program and a variety of special projects. JCF has been a longtime sponsor of The Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
