Jocalio, a tech company providing data-driven solutions to independent jewelers, has hired Michael Schechter as vice president of digital services.

In his new role, Schechter will enhance Jocalio’s digital offerings while developing new initiatives to support independent jewelers.

He started in the jewelry industry as the third generation at his family’s pearl business, Honora. After Richline acquired Honora in 2013, Schechter worked on various tech projects for the Berkshire Hathaway–owned group.

Schechter is a GIA Graduate Gemologist, longstanding member of the 24 Karat Club of New York City, and former columnist for JCK.

“Michael brings 25 years of expertise getting results through digital initiatives, customized products, and omnichannel marketing,” said Jocalio CEO Val Katayev in a statement.

Added Schechter: “Most outside entrepreneurs look at our industry and attempt to disrupt it, usually unsuccessfully. Jocalio takes the opposite approach. Val and his team are empowering existing independent jewelers to succeed by reimagining how we align emerging digital possibilities with traditional best practices.”

Founded in 2017, Jocalio not only provides digital services but also sells diamond jewelry and distributes brands, including Shinola and Silent Opus.
