Michael Hill’s U.S. Sales Growing

New Zealand jeweler Michael Hill’s U.S. business experienced “strong growth” in the last quarter, the company announced in a statement issued Oct. 11.

The retailer currently has nine stores in the United States.

Overall U.S. sales reached $1.9 million in the quarter ending Sept. 30, a 37.4 percent growth over last year’s $1.3 million.

However, the company said sales have been “challenging” in its other three markets: New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.

Overall sales for the quarter were up 6.5 percent, to 101.4 million New Zealand dollars, compared to 95.2 million New Zealand dollars last year.

“The board is pleased with the sales results, especially given they were on the back of strong growth in the first quarter of last year,” the company said in a statement.
