McGinty Jewelers Bids Farewell To St. Louis

Upon becoming first-time grandparents, Chuck and Laura
McGinty decided to close their downtown St. Louis, Mo., jewelry store just after
three years.

McGinty Jewelers on the Plaza will close sometime in the
first quarter of next year, the couple’s son, store manager Charles McGinty,
tells JCK. “We’re trying to move everything out of the store and are selling
things as cheap as we can,” Charles says. “It was fun while it lasted, but it’s just time to shut
down.”

He explains that the decision to close was solely based on
personal reasons—not the economy or location. “They chose to focus on the main store
so they can spend more time with the grandson,” says Charles.

The McGintys’ main store, C.P. McGinty Jewelers in
Cape Girardeau, Mo.—which features more jewelry
designers, engagement rings, and full service—will remain open. “We’re very optimistic for 2011,” says Charles.
“Our Cape location is very strong and it’ll be exciting to have all the family
working together in one location.”
