The flowers in this new ring by Mary Esses feature a richly textured, almost fabric- or brocade-like effect—as if she embroidered them into existence with a spool of 18k yellow gold.
The piece—adorned with 0.30 ct. t.w. colorless diamonds—is brand new and has not yet been seen by stores (though one chain plans to see it in mid-March). The muse: spring. “I think the whole concept of flowers is very beautiful and romantic,” says the New York City–based jewelry designer.
To make the ring, Esses casts and sculpts the gold into shape, with a texturing so vivid that viewers can clearly see each flower craning for a sunnier position. “The whole process takes more than one day to do,” she adds. The ring retails for $3,500.
