On March 4, a man named Steven Crocker posted on Facebook that he’s in possession of an engagement ring that he’s willing to send to a deserving couple for free.
Crocker shared that he never had a chance to use the ring and that he’s “still heartbroken” over the fractured relationship it was meant to celebrate. The ring is 14k white gold with a diamond center stone, and Crocker photographed it in a Kay Jewelers ring box.
“I’ll send it anywhere in the U.S. where someone is head-over-heels,” he wrote, before asking interested parties to email him a video explaining why they deserve it. “It’s not the fanciest ring in the world but it can potentially make someone very happy for the rest of their life.”
The internet is, predictably, showing him some serious love.
Plenty of commenters are vying for the ring, but even more users are showing their appreciation for Crocker’s magnanimous gesture. Comments include, “The sweetest post on fb in a long time,” “You must have a huge heart,” and “There needs to be more people out there in the world like you.”

Crocker wrote that he tried selling the ring “to a handful of places” but was offered “a very depreciated value that I didn’t want to take because it’s not about the money, for me, it’s about love, and I’d hate to see a good ring go to waste, so I’m going to give it away.”
He went on to say that he wants to give it to someone “who is so in love with their significant other and wants to take the next step but cannot afford a ring. I don’t think that anyone on MY friends list falls in that category, but someone out there does, which is why sharing this post is very much appreciated.”
Crocker said he will pick the recipient with the help of friends and implored interested parties to “show me pictures of you and your significant other, tell me how you fell in love, tell me their favorite color; whatever you think will convince me of sending this ring to you.”
He added an addendum to the post yesterday that reads, “So far I have received over 400 love stories—thank you all so much! I will slowly begin to chip away at them and accept more until I find the one. I won’t pick a lucky couple until after I have read all of them and submissions begin to plateau; no telling when that will be.”
