Live Blogging the 61st Annual Tony Awards (Part V)

9:45pm
Sam Waterston, “Mr. Law & Order” himself & Felicity Huffman of TransAmerica and “Desperate Housewives,” who appeared on Broadway in David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow present Best Revival of a Play.

Adornment: Huffman, perscription glasses & a gold pinky ring.

Winner: Journey’s End

Our production editor, Maria Reyes, sold me on Liev in Talk Radio but I had no personal stake in this category.

In Memoriam (9:48pm – 9:50pm)
Tommy Tune sings the fallen Betty Comden’s work from The Will Rogers Follies. (For a full list of others we have lost this year click here.)

Best Performance of a Leading Actress in a Play
Presented by Brian Dennehy – a Tony Award-winner as Best Actor in a Play for his performances in Death of a Salesman (1999) and Long Day’s Journey Into Night (2003). He is currently appearing in Inherit the Wind.

He was unforgettable in Salesman, I was speechless after the performance & took the bus all the way to and from Oberlin to see it, by myself. It was 14 hours by Greyhound, both ways & worth every second of screaming children & annoying cellphone conversations.

Audra also presented (she had changed since the red carpet) and was in a regal shade of purple, with small, drop, circular earrings and a simple chain necklace with a singular gemstone off-set by pounds of fake hair.

Winner: Julie White, who was clearly shocked to win. She was in a playful, floral summer dress, which made it clear, aside from her hilarious acceptance speech, that she really didn’t think that she was going to win. She wore a great gold bracelet comprised of several strands which caught the light wonderfully.

10:08pm – 10:10pm
Performance by the cast of Jersey Boys I mean come on guys, you’re so 2006.

10:10pm – 10:12pm
The recap of the the technical awards. You know, a friend of mine designed the hair for about 8 shows that are up right now, I’m shocked that there’s no award for that. I’ll have to ask him why & report back.
