Live Blogging the 61st Annual Tony Awards (Part IV)

I’m not having a good year
I was sure that Kiki & Herb Alive on Broadway was going to receive the Tony for Best Special Theatrical Event. It’s a good thing I didn’t enter a pool this year, I would’ve been out long ago.

Taking the Tony was Jay Johnson: The Two and Only.

9:23pm
The Tony’s pokes fun at themselves. Everyone, ok I, always dread the part of the show when the suits from the Wing office drone on & on. This year a huge chandelier falls on said suits (Sondra Gilman, ATW chairman & Douglas B. Leeds, ATW president) to reveal Jane Krakowski – Tony Award-winner for her performance in the musical Nine, and star of television’s “30 Rock” & John Mahoney – the 1986 Tony Award-winner as Best Featured Actor in a Play for The House of Blue Leaves, Martin Crane on “Frasier,” and appeared on Broadway this season in Prelude to a Kiss.

The pair played the roles of Gillman & Leeds to a comedic T, dressed to mimic the orginal pair, down to the interesting pearl necklace of Gillman.

Next up the Montage of the Best Musical/Revival nominees (9:26pm – 9:29pm)
Introduced by Marvin Hamlisch – the two-time Tony Award-nominated composer. He is one of the few people to have won an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Grammy in addition to a Tony Award, which he won for A Chorus Line along side Marg Helgenberger – Emmy-award winning star of “China Beach” and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

Helgenberger was, shocker, not bare necked, but I’ll be sure to ask Rob his expert opinion tomorrow on the state of our female celebrity necks & what medical risks they face by running around bare this chilly June evening.

Another one for Spring Awakening

(Shut Up) Patti LuPone – a three-time Tony Award nominee and winner in 1980 for Evita, who will be starring in Gypsy at City Center Encores! this summer.

Patti brings it!

Roskin, it’s your job to give us the details on her phenomenal floral themed gemstone necklace she wore to introduce the performance of Raul Esparza (Bobby Baby, Bobby Bubby).

9:40pm
Marcia Gay Harden – the two-time Academy Award-nominated actress who earned a Tony Award nomination for her Broadway performance in Tony Kushner’s Angels in America helps to present the Best Play noms in what could only be described as “Pirates of the Caribbean“-chic.  She sported a series of chunky, black beaded necklaces.
