Live Blogging the 61st Annual Tony Awards (Part III)

I’m terribly prolific, I know.

Back to the show …

Rainn Wilson & Claire Danes present the award for Best Featured Actress in a Play.

Laura Finkelstein & I have spent many a Friday morning dissecting Wilson’s Thursday evening performance in “The Office” & I’m sad to be seeing my office (pun intended) buddy go.

Whoa, lost myself there for a sec, but am shocked back to reality by the thin frame of Danes & am wondering how she has managed to carry the stunning diamond bracelet she is sporting across the stage.

Winner: A very understated Jennifer Ehle, wearing a simple, diamond tennis bracelet. No earrings. Classic, long, sleeved/bodest dress suit. Very elegant.

Performance by the cast of Mary Poppins
I had forgotten how modest Mary is. She is completely covered. Gloves & all, no adornment whatsoever. I guess when traisping about with chimney sweeps your best best is to keep it simple & your skin protected.

A Year in Plays Montage (9:09pm-9:11pm)
Did you know that 12.3 million tickets to Broadway performances were sold this year? Well now you do; it’s a new record!

Best Director of a Play
Cynthia Nixon – the Emmy-winning “Sex and the City” star who has appeared on Broadway regularly since 1980, and who won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for Rabbit Hole presents with Liev Schreiber – filmmaker, performer, and past-Tony winner who is a nominee for his current performance in Eric Bogosian’s (another Obie grad, class of ‘76) Talk Radio.

The Coast of Utopia is now tied with Spring Awakening at 3 Tony’s a piece.

Nixon was looking stunning. With such beautiful skin, she is one of the few who can carry off such a deep neck-line sans a necklace. I’m not able to see her earring very well behind her signature red hair. I’ll be sure to update tomorrow anything that I may have missed.

Eddie Izzard is up next, he’s not my cup.
